World Book Day

Yesterday, Pencombe CofE Primary celebrated World Book Day – a wonderful day dedicated to promoting the joy of reading and all things books!
This year, the children took on the challenge of dressing as a word. They each chose a word and then carefully thought about how to express it through a creative costume. It was great fun, and everyone looked amazing!
The Reading Ambassadors organised a Design a Character Mask competition, where children created masks of their favourite book characters.
Everyone had great fun guessing which characters the masks represented, and the Reading Ambassadors selected a winner from each class. Fantastic creativity all round—well done, Pencombe!

It wouldn’t be a World Book Day without book buddies! Even though children across the school share in storytelling every Thursday, it was extra special today…

The Reading Ambassadors also arranged a ‘Reading Cafe’ where the parents were invited in to share stories with their children over a hot chocolate and biscuit – always a well attended event!

Cherry Class had a fantastic day enjoying stories and discovering new vocabulary. They even explored alliteration—can anyone explain it? Cherry Class can! Here’s a clue: cheerful cherries 🍒
Oak Class also had great fun taking part in a Who Am I? quiz, where they guessed famous book characters from a single clue. They were incredibly knowledgeable and showed just how well they know their stories!
