Yesterday, Welsh Water visited Pencombe for a whole school assembly and additional workshops with Oak and Willow class.
Ruth from Welsh Water, explained the water cycle and how they make the water safe for us to drink as well as the dangers of reservoirs.
In the workshops, the children worked in teams to design a system of water pipes connecting all the buildings on the map. Each group had a budget of £30,000, and because the cost was determined by the length of the pipes, they had to carefully plan their routes to stay within budget and avoid any “leaks.”
It turned into a fantastic problem‑solving challenge, using real-life maths, and the children absolutely loved it!
“During the workshop, I liked working together and connecting all of the pipes to the buildings.” (William, Y5)
“My favourite part was when Ruth gave us the task with the water pipes – it made me think about how much money they need to spend in real life!” (Marley, Y6)
