Science Week - Curiosity

The whole school gathered together for an introductory assembly with Mrs Lyons, then were grouped into their houses so that all year groups could work together.
They started the week by investigating four different areas.

In Oak, Miss Woolley asked the question – ‘How can we make a tied balloon inflate?’
The children mind-mapped together and discussed ideas. They funnelled bicarbonate of soda into the balloon and then filled a little bag of vinegar placing it inside the balloon, before tying it and decorating it into a puffer fish!
The children then stood on it to burst the vinegar bag inside to cause a chemical reaction and inflate the balloon / puffer fish.
Mrs Brown’s “egg- speriment” asked the question “How can we get an egg into the bottle?”
It was all to do with temperature and changes in air pressure.
The children also used egg shaped water balloons as well as real (hard boiled) eggs – these worked really well.
Everyone enjoyed this one!
Miss Davies set up an experiment where children were testing how to mix colours using food colouring and paper towel.
The children had to test how they could get each cup of food colouring to meet, and mix to form new colouring.
