Remembrance

Yesterday, at 11am, the community of Pencombe came together to commemorate Remembrance Day led by Reverend Sidwell.
Willow class recited the poem The Serving Soldier, Oak class narrated the poem Heroes, and Cherry class offered some prayers. The children laid crosses for the four local soldiers who fought in war.
We shared a two minute silence to commemorate all those involved and who lost their lives in war.

After this, the children congregated around the tree planted for rifleman William Aldridge, a past pupil at Pencombe CofE Primary, who sadly lost his life in Afghanistan. Pippin class laid poppies and a wreath, and a prayer was said for William.

“They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old: Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning, We will remember them.”
