Remembrance

On Tuesday, at 11am, the whole school joined the community of Pencombe to pay their respects at the village memorial.

Reverend Jane let the service and ‘In Flanders Fields was recited by Oak class, prayers were read and a two minute silence took place to remember our fallen heroes.

Four children were chosen to lay crosses for Frank Livingstone, Walter Thompson, John Weathersby and Thomas Weathersby (the four local soldiers killed in WW1)

After the service, the children congregated around the tree that was planted to commemorate Rifleman William Aldridge, a former pupil at Pencombe, who was just 18 years old when he died whilst serving his country in Afghanistan, 2009.

‘They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old: Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. We will remember them’.
