Remembrance Day

In preparation for Remembrance Day, Birch class made poppy jars – they were fun to make and the children enjoyed getting sticky!
The whole school joined the local community at Pencombe memorial to share in Remembrance Day led by Reverend Sidwell. The children laid crosses for the local soldiers who fought in war, Y6 recited “In Flanders Fields” and we shared a two minute silence to commemorate all those involved and who lost their lives in war.
The children then gathered around the tree planted for rifleman William Aldridge, a past pupil at Pencombe CofE Primary, who sadly lost his life in Afghanistan. A cross was laid for William and the children said a prayer for him.
“They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old: Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning We will remember them.”
