Pencombe Primary has long been at the heart of the local village community in Herefordshire. Like many rural Church of England schools, its origins are closely linked to the parish church and the need to provide education for local children within a small, close-knit community.
Historical records show that a Sunday and day school existed in Pencombe as early as the 19th century, supported by the local church and parish community. Over time, this early provision developed into the primary school that continues to serve the village today.
By the mid-20th century, the school operated as a small rural setting with mixed-age classes, reflecting the needs of the local population. Former pupils recall a traditional two-class structure (infants and juniors), with strong links to the church and village life shaping both learning and community events.
This week, Pippin class went on an adventure around the school, both upstairs and downstairs…into Mrs Goodman’s office and ending up at their favourite place – The Infamous Cossie!
