PSHE & Values

PE develops the children’s knowledge, skills and understanding, so that they can perform with increasing competence and confidence in a range of physical activities.

PSHE plays an integral part in school life. We aim to promote healthy, independent and responsible members of society. We encourage all our pupils to play a positive role in contributing to school life and the wider community through our school council, fundraising events and involvement in community activities. We encourage ownership and responsibility by providing the children with purposeful roles within the school. Our pupils are given opportunities in lessons and assemblies to explore PSHE/ British Values lessons to develop confidence, self-motivation and an understanding of their rights and responsibilities within our diverse society. Cross-curricular opportunities for personal and social development are also planned. Across the school, positive attitudes and values are developed in day-to-day interactions and activities.

PSHE Curriculum

Kapow RSE & PSHE Curriculum

At Pencombe Cof E Primary, we are proud to teach the Kapow RSE & PSHE scheme of work.

PSHE stands for Personal, Social, Health and Economic Education. RSE stands for Relationships and Sex Education.

The Kapow Primary RSE & PSHE scheme covers the full breadth of learning pupils need to stay healthy, safe and prepared for life.

RSE & PSHE education helps pupils maintain their mental and physical health and understand the various factors that influence their wellbeing. They learn how to build strong and supportive relationships, how to keep themselves safe in various situations and how to make thoughtful decisions about money, health and the online world.

Background Information

A Broad and Balanced Curriculum

The scheme is organised into strands and key areas to ensure a broad and balanced curriculum.

Key areas group learning into meaningful themes and ensure that all statutory content is covered. The strands run through the entire curriculum, demonstrating how pupils develop lifelong skills in managing themselves, regulating their emotions, building positive relationships and thinking critically.

Together, the strands and key areas help pupils revisit important ideas over time, building their confidence and understanding in a structured way.

British Values

Kapow Primary’s PSHE curriculum integrates four fundamental British values – democracy, rule of law, respect/tolerance and individual liberty—throughout its lessons.

It helps children understand these concepts through stories, role-play, and discussions, fostering skills for modern life, safety, and respect for diversity, which parents can reinforce at home.

Sex Education

The Governors statement of sex education in this school is that “part of the Personal, Social and Health Education (PSHE) of this school will include sex education”.  Formal sex education is offered to Y6 children after written notification to parents/guardians. Individual’s questions are dealt with in an honest and understanding way, as sensible caring parents would deal with their own children.
