P.E. & Sport

PE develops the children’s knowledge, skills and understanding, so that they can perform with increasing competence and confidence in a range of physical activities.

Our school seeks to provide a sound background in sport through national curriculum physical education and a range of extra-curricular activities. Within these opportunities we are committed to developing good quality performance, and providing our children with an understanding of games principles, enjoyment and knowing how to improve.

We Provide

Programmes of study for all pupils for physical education. At the foundation stage physical development is concerned with improving skills of co-ordination, control and movement. These skills are consolidated through games, gymnastics and dance. Pupils throughout the school are also introduced to swimming, athletics and outdoor adventure activities.
Teams represent the school in local leagues and friendly matches in netball, football, tag-rugby and rounders.
Year 6 pupils take part in a residential visit to an outdoor activity centre along with all other Year 6 pupils across the federation, where they experience a wide range of activities designed to build confidence, independence and teamwork. These visits play an important role in preparing pupils for the transition to secondary school, helping them develop resilience, social skills and readiness for new challenges, and to meet new friends.
A number of specialist coaches visit school at various times of the year (for football, tag-rugby, gymnastics, cricket and dance). They are able to introduce interested pupils to a range of local sports clubs. We also employ our own Sports Coach, Adriano.
