Water Safety In Hot Weather

This week, we held a special assembly with our KS2 children to talk about water safety, following the recent tragic news reports involving children and open water during the hot weather.

As temperatures rise, we know that rivers, lakes and reservoirs can seem inviting places to cool down. However, we took time to help the children understand the very real risks associated with open water, including cold water shock, hidden dangers and the importance of making safe choices.

We also discussed how important it is for children to:
  • Be able to swim confidently
  • Always be with a responsible adult near water
  • Avoid entering open water unless it is a supervised, safe environment

These are important life skills that help keep children safe.
We would encourage families to continue these conversations at home, particularly during the warmer months.

Keeping our children safe is something we all share responsibility for, and we are committed to ensuring they have the knowledge to make safe choices.
